like eating an apple with a fork

A "select few" of my friends probably already know this deep dark little embarrassing secret of mine.. but yes, I eat durians using a spoon.

My aunt was the one who 'started' eating durians with a spoon and I used to laugh at how ridiculous it was. Durians didn't taste like durians unless you ate it using your fingers! With the nice creamy texture against your fingertips and when you're done, you could lick your fingers clean. Durians are hardly the posh delicacy to be eaten using a spoon.

But then my mom sort of saw the logic of using a spoon.. cleaner, less messier, fingers don't smell and need not be washed 10 times with industrial soap just to get the smell off.. Then my dad and sis started using spoons to eat the durians.

So I caved into peer pressure and started using a spoon to eat durians. And yes, you can actually eat each piece quite easily, leaving the seed completely naked just by using a spoon. Though it does get kind of heavy/tiring to eat after a while.

if only I could be as cool as her =)

Somewhat semi-related to the last post, here's an audio of an 8 year old girl who wants to get her school demolished =)

too old

The boyfriend posted this image on facebook

Falling Up by nikki.jane

It supposedly hasn't been photoshopped, but the skeptic in me is assuming that there has to at least be some editing done to it.. to get that sort of colours and tonal quality in it. Or maybe it was shot on film. [I love film photography, a blog entry on that for another day]

Well I think that this is meant to be a self-portrait, so maybe a very pro person shot this photo of her? Or she just used a tripod..

Just slighty miffed that nikki.jane is about 14 years old and is able to take such great shots.. and I don't. The shots I take are alright and I do believe that simply because of the sheer number of shots that I do take (though that number has dropped greatly these days), one or two has to once in a while end up being a good shot.

Sure I'm very impressed by her body of work.. but honestly, don't you find these insanely young and overly talented people annoying?

It's like you hit that tender age of about 15 years old, and you're still not manifesting some sort of innate talent that should well be beyond your years..

And you realize that you're getting too old to be a prodigy.
Damn.

Oh well, here's to trying to be a 'late bloomer' then :)

must/should. blog. more

Ok so evidently I'm still not back into the habit of blogging regularly. Trying to make this blog a little bit less self indulgent than past writings.. Maybe so it'll cater to a wider audience? I don't know. Sometimes I do get a topic idea worth blogging for.. but me being me, I procrastinate a tiny bit and after a while it seems like it's a bit too "back dated" to blog about. Or I don't really think i have anything worth saying to immortalise within the blogging realm.. Or I do have something to say but then I think, what if this or that person reads it.. But maybe I should care less. Or more. Whatever it is, I'll TRY and blog more xx

Oh crap moment

Ok crap.

I was intending to sleep about 45 minutes ago and I had already washed up and was lying comfortably in bed when this thought hit me -

Maybe I should focus on being a photographer rather than a creative director in the advertising industry.

In all honesty, this is quite a "oh crap" moment for me and I'm starting to feel a bit stressed about it.. I'll go ponder about it a bit more in this hopefully not so sleepless night and blog about it later when I'm more coherent.

/end rant

*edit - ok I just deleted the original post.. yea a bit too angsty and not exactly a "nice and mature" moment for me.. so if you read it erm oops.. if you didn't, er oops too I guess?

Sammie posted the above image on facebook and it originated from this page.. and even though she's one of my best friends (and we haven't talked in eons!), I didn't see it but my boyfriend did.. and he had to point it out to me -.-

(boyfriend doesn't believe in marriage)
me: if we don't ever get married.. I can't design a card like that!
bf: ermmmmm.. *shifts around in chair* THIS IS EMOTIONAL BLACKMAIL
me: how else do girls get guys to marry them? =)
bf: by getting guys who actually do want to get married??
me: oo is that a hint for me to find someone else?
bf: >< do we have to get married?
me: *goes back to emotional blackmailing..

bf: you could do a card like that you know like, those adverts for competitions that never actually get out to the consumers!
me: and that's the next best thing to marriage eh?

and so ends our conversation..
haha sighs..

Ok let's go eat

Yes, I do realise this post is going to make me sound a tad bit like some rich bitch...

So I recently got back to Singapore again from London.. and my dad decided to bring me out for some good food, especially since my eating habits in London are understandably much more "studenty/budgety"..

I was planning to catch up on my sleep and wake up at some digustingly late hour, enjoy some SIMPLE home-cooked food (that I was actually really looking forward to) and get some much needed work done.. But I got woken up by mom saying my dad wants to go out for lunch. This was of course after he had decided the previous night that we'll go for lunch some other day and not today -.-

But I can't really complain when the food was so good and good food makes me happy =)

For lunch we went to Les Amis, the restaurant with it's ever changing decor.. The number of times that damn place has been renovated is unbelievable.. I swear they changed the carpeted wall colours again since the last time I was there, which was at the start of this year.. This is what it looks like now :

Started off the meal with this -
*edit: actually no wait, there was this mini appetizer but it looked and smelled so good that I just popped it in my mouth before realising that I didn't take a photo of it..

It's like poached egg wrapped in parama ham and in a curved piece of some sort of crispy bread.. on erm, something =x It's really yummy =) I remember the presentation looking slightly prettier the last time round and the bread being erm, taller.. so after much digging I found the pic i shot of it the last time I had it:

Then I had one of my favourite foods on earth, pan fried foie gras:

If you look closely you sort of see this white thing on the curved piece of bread. It's actually champagne foam! Thought that was really interesting..

Then we had dory fish in an onion soup base.. And I guess I was too hungry and just ate it as soon as the dish touched the table because I just realised that I don't have a photo of it.. er oops..

Main course was a steak-

And yea I think I just wanted to eat the yummy food because I moved the two pieces of ravioli and messed up the arrangement a bit before I realised that I had yet to take a photo of it.. oops again..

Then dessert! The waiter kept recommending the sorbet but my parents didn't want to try it, so I thought that I might as well order it

It comes in a block, like a cake, with each coloured layer being different flavours. Each layer is then separated by a thin piece of chocolate. It was so pretty! Was expecting something more like scoops in a glass.. and the dark brown thing next to it was like this thin chocolate cake casing with warm chocolate sauce inside.. That was also another pleasant surprise. Yes I do have a major sweet tooth..

And then my parents decided that we'll stay out for dinner as well and decided to treat me to a meal at Yoyogi, which is along Mohammed Sultan road. Really like it there 'cause the head chef/owner and his staff are all really friendly and quite funny at times too =) One of the chefs, Patrick, he's 29years old and when my mom said quite candidly that she doesn't believe him (he looks older) his whole face changed to an appalled look in a joking sort of manner. Just one of the many entertaining moments of the night =)

And the food! I'm getting lazy to type more so I'll mainly just spam with pictures.. trying to get back to the habit of blogging, but er slowly! -

I love this pasta.. It's cold angel hair with tiny cripsy (dried?) prawns and those yummy tiny orange eggs, that for some reason I can't remember right now what it's called.. And truffle oil. I love truffle oil.. yea have I mentioned that this post is going to make me sound like some sort of rich bitch.. oh and the plate and fork are all chilled before serving. I love little extra touches like that =)

My favourite sushi, fatty tuna that's been torched -

Yes, there's always room for dessert (:
(and yes, again I got too eager to eat the food and messed up the arrangement before I shot a photo of it)

test

bear with me whilst I try and sort out the layout of this page and try to get back to blogging..
